Gulf Shores, Alabama is a city of about 5,000 (2000 Census) nestled between New Orleans, Louisiana and Tallahassee, Florida.

This small beach resort is home to many beautiful attractions and thirty two miles of white sandy beaches. Gulf Shores, Alabama is one of two major resorts in the state of Alabama.

Gulf Shores, Alabama is a sleepy little beach town, made up of mostly locals. Gulf Shores has only one high school, middle school, and elementary school and is also home to a “resort park”. This is a mix between a state park and a resort. They have a lodge, pool, fishing pier, golf, and tennis providing fun and interest for all.

Some fun resorts like places to visit while in Gulf shores are the Gulf Shores Amusement Park, Adventure Island, Gulf Coast Explorium, and Waterville USA. With all of these fun attractions, one must not forget to soak up some sun on the spectacular southern beaches.

The first European to visit Gulf Shores, Alabama was Joe Davis Prince Madoc. In 1979, Hurricane Frederic stormed through Gulf Shores wiping out everything in his path. Today there are still small remnants of the former beaches, but most has been revamped to the beautiful beaches they are today. In 1864, Fort Morgan (in Gulf Shores) was seized by the union after the Battle of Mobile.

Known for its many golf courses, Gulf Shores is always a place to tee off. Gulf Shores alone has over 288 holes to play and has courses designed by well known golf names, such as: Arnold Palmer, Larry Nelson, Bruce Devlin, Jerry Pate, Robert Von Hagge and Earl Stone.

If shopping is what you are looking for, then keep in mind that Bayou Village is a warm shopping village in the heart of Gulf Shores. There are many shops to explore and you can find some Gulf Shores originals.
