Historical Significance of the Oakleigh Complex

Having heard of the Oakleigh Complex at Mobile, Alabama, I just simply think of it as nothing but a dull tourist attraction. But that was when I haven’t set foot myself yet at this very place and get amazed of what it has in store for all tourists to see.

On a 3.5 acre you will find the Oakleigh Complex where the three great museums of Mobile are situated. There is the Oakleigh House Museum, the Mardi Gras Cottage Museum and the Cox-Deasy Cottage. All these three have a history to tell. The Oakleigh Complex is but an example of a truly amazing and admirable architecture, construction and history. You will get to know of how life was it before at this place especially during the 19th century.

The Oakleigh House Museum shows the wonderful archetype of the Greek revival architecture. It is the official antebellum mansion of Mobile with its large and elegant white columns, spiral-designed staircase made of marble and its details are so accurate that you will really be taken in awe. Furnished with rare antiques, the place reveals a history of the way of living of the families staying in it a long time ago. While on a tour, get the chance to stop by at the Cook’s quarters. Compare how life was it for those slaves staying there from what life is it now in the present time.

Likewise, don’t miss to get a final round at the Cox-Deasy Home. This is the dwelling place of those who have an average life during the 19th century. Listening through the history lying behind this museum, you will somehow be able to experience the struggles they have had during those times as revealed by each and every corner of this building.

There is no wonder why the Oakleigh Complex becomes a one-stop historical sight. The three museums disclose great historical significance, wonderful architecture, and exquisite structural designs and furnishings that you would truly love to keep memories of.

Just like me, be thrilled, get awed, and be amazed and informed of the historically significant Oakleigh Complex of Mobile, Alabama. It is an experience you won’t regret but rather treasure for a lifetime.
