Battle House Hotel is among the many historic buildings in Mobile, Alabama. This a century old architecture, approximately built 1908, and that is the second Battle House Hotel to stand in Mobile. It replaced an earlier Battle House Hotel that was built in 1852. As historical as it is, battle house hotel is among the earliest steel frame structures in Alabama. This Hotel was opened by brothers John, James, and Samuel Battle.

As the site of a former military headquarters, Battle house hotel was set up by Andrew Jackson back in 1812. This hotel was a four-story brick building, including two-story gallery of cast iron. With its amazing architecture, the hotel has become a home to two other hotels: the Franklin Hotel and Waverly Hotel. Tragically, both of these structures are gone because of huge fire.

The eight-story Battle House Hotel is framed with and is structured with marble and brick facings. The features are projecting one-story portico and of Tuscan columns. The level above the portico has covered Tuscan loggias with window balustrades. A wide third-story entablature covered with cast iron balconies is also featured in the hotel structure. Other details like the window openings from the entire facade are actually revealing wonderful keystones. The openings of the seventh level contain cast iron balconies while the roof level takes hold of the molded projecting cornice that is built with scroll brackets.

The lobby of the Battle House Hotel can give you a relaxing feeling under the domed sky light that still reflects the 1908 style. You will see that the ceiling and walls are projected with plasterwork, painted using the trompe-l’œil technique.
